Arrival of David Berman, a high profile regulatory partner in the City, will further bolster the practice in London and globally.

July 28, 2017

Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that David Berman will join the London office as a partner in the Financial Institutions Group. His practice focuses on representing financial institutions on a range of domestic and cross-border regulatory, compliance and governance-related matters. He has established a reputation as one of the leading regulatory lawyers in London, advising both buy-side and sell-side clients on a variety of complex and high-profile advisory, remedial and transactional matters.

Berman's recent work includes advising extensively on the Senior Managers & Certification Regime, assisting with regulatory reform projects such as MAR, undertaking independent investigations and overseeing complex remediation and redress exercises. He frequently counsels boards and executives on 'high-stakes' issues of strategic significance.

“David is an outstanding lawyer with an excellent reputation in the City," said Jay Sadanandan, Latham & Watkins’ Office Managing Partner in London. "He is a perfect fit for our strategic growth in London and the continued expansion of our global financial services regulatory practice.”

Rob Moulton, Global Co-chair of Latham & Watkins’ Financial Institutions Group and a partner in the firm’s London office, said: “We set our sights on establishing the preeminent global practice with the ability to tackle the most complex regulatory matters of our financial institution clients. David has a tremendous market standing and will be a great addition to our existing strong team."

Witold Balaban, Global Co-chair of Latham’s Financial Institutions Group and a partner in the firm’s New York office, added: “Faced with the fast-changing regulatory environment, global financial institutions are increasingly looking for integrated legal solutions to respond to the shifting landscape. David’s wealth of experience, impeccable judgment and pragmatic approach are exactly the qualities clients look for as they navigate the tough and fragmented regulatory environment.”

"Latham has fast become the pre-eminent one-stop firm of choice for global financial institutions. I am thrilled to be joining such an ambitious and dynamic practice and the incredibly talented FIG team; and Iook forward to contributing to the continued success of the firm,” added Berman.

Berman will join Latham & Watkins from the London office of Quinn Emanuel. Earlier in his career, he was a managing director at an international investment bank where he held senior legal, compliance and regulatory roles; and subsequently a partner at Macfarlanes LLP. He completed his LLM at King’s College London in 1996 and was called to the Bar in 1997, before being admitted as a Solicitor of England & Wales in 2000.
